This is a quintessential piece of African Architecture and is rapidly disappearing as houses become larger and made of more modern materials. We recorded it in southern Ethiopia on a grant funded project in January 2023.
We have fully documented every part of the building process from the gathering of materials in the bush through to the final mixing of clay and dung to form the floor. This has been done in partnership with the local community. The house was built for a young woman (Kerro) with two children who had lost her husband and she was very happy to receive a new home as a gift from our crew.
We record some of the remotest and most endangered architectures on the planet and cannot do this without your help. You can support us via Patreon, where you can find additional private and early view videos, as well as more background information, or buy our book at the link below. Thank You!
