Corelogic's Head of Research Eliza Owen says the property market is generally on the side of buyers because there are a lot of people looking to sell.
She says weak economic conditions, the high cost of living, high interest rates and low household savings are all combining to constrain affordability. She says in the last four weeks, more listings were added to the market than total sales volumes.
The data shows house prices nationally have been rising for 19 consecutive months, but the rate of growth is slowing. Market conditions vary widely across the country.
Ms Owen says Victoria and Tasmania are firmly in a buyers market, while WA, South Australia and Queensland are still seeing home values increase.
