So I nerded out a bit and built a tool to compare true home cost over 30 years of ownership.. and it turns out the higher costs of ownership of the Texas home actually make it 60% more expensive to own than the same home value in California! Alternately, you can buy a California home at a 40% premium to the Texas home and have the same 30 year cost of ownership ????
