Shou, aka Shouxing, Sau and the Old Man of the South Pole is the Feng Shui deity of longevity.
(Chinese: 壽星;)

He represents the 'Star of longevity' α Carinae (Canopus).

He is believed to control the lifespans of mortals. According to legend, he was carried in his mother's womb for ten years before being born, and was already an old man when delivered. He is recognized by his high, domed forehead and the peach which he carries as a symbol of immortality. The longevity god is usually shown smiling and friendly, and he may sometimes be carrying a calabash gourd filled with the elixir of life. That can be seen at the very top of this carving. He is sometimes conflated with Master Lao and immortals in Taoist theology. He is frequently carved, as is this case, with a deer.

Shou was purchased in Hong Kong in the 1980's. My mother is now 90 years old and going strong and Shou will need a new large home. He is currently available and can be delivered anywhere in the continental USA. Importing into Canada may also be possible.

Shou was carved out of lychee wood which like rose wood is also red. However, unlike rose wood, he can adorn your home without worry.

Note: There are rules according to feng shui regarding his placement in a home. In our case he was facing the main formal dining room table.
