Situated along the tranquil waters of Vembanad Lake, ‘Plumerias’ is a thoughtfully designed residence that seamlessly integrates architecture with its natural surroundings. Designed by architect Sebastian Jose as his personal home, the project embodies a landscape-centric approach, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing site while enhancing the living experience through openness and connection to nature.

The home’s design is defined by a floating mass concept, where the upper level appears to hover above the land, allowing the space beneath to remain untouched. This design choice not only preserves the site’s original trees but also enhances natural airflow and cross-ventilation. A carefully planned spatial arrangement ensures a gradual unfolding of spaces, leading from a narrow entrance to expansive views of the lake. The introduction of a central water court, home to three Plumeria trees, reinforces the residence’s connection to its landscape, inspiring its name.

Sustainability is embedded into the design, incorporating passive cooling techniques such as green roofs, insulated terracotta bricks, and deep overhangs. A 20-meter-long concealed-frame perimeter window brings in natural light while maintaining uninterrupted views of the water. With its emphasis on openness, environmental sensitivity, and seamless spatial flow, the residence offers a refined yet deeply connected living experience within an urban setting.
