We’re on a 50-state road trip with our kids, looking for the coolest, kid-approved short-term rental in each state. In Pennsylvania, we checked into the Haines Shoe House - a quirky, historic landmark-turned-STR shaped like a giant shoe.

Before arriving in Yorkana, we spent the afternoon in Philadelphia, grabbing Philly cheesesteaks and visiting a few historic landmarks. Then we made our way west, where the Shoe House instantly felt like one of the most unique stays of our entire trip. The kids couldn’t believe they were sleeping inside a giant shoe, and we loved learning the history behind this iconic roadside attraction.
