Summer Wells, a 5-year-old girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, vanished from her family's rural home on Ben Hill Road in the Beech Creek community of Hawkins County, Tennessee, on June 15, 2021. According to her mother, Candus Wells, Summer had been playing inside the house while her brothers were outside, and she disappeared sometime after 6:30 p.m. after asking to go downstairs to play with toys. An AMBER Alert was immediately issued, sparking a massive search effort involving local authorities, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), and volunteers who combed nearby woods, rivers, and fields with dogs, drones, and ATVs. Despite the extensive ground and aerial searches, no trace of Summer—last seen wearing a pink shirt, white shorts, and a gray unicorn-head slipper—has ever been found, leaving her family and community in anguish.

The investigation quickly turned toward the Wells family amid reports of domestic violence and child welfare concerns, with Summer's parents, Donald and Candus Wells, passing polygraph tests but facing scrutiny over inconsistencies in their statements. Donald Wells later suggested in interviews that he believed Summer might have been abducted, while Candus has been questioned about the possibility of harm coming to her daughter at home. As of 2025, four years later, the case remains unsolved, with renewed searches planned by the TBI and ongoing pleas from the family for tips. The disappearance continues to haunt Tennessee's Appalachian region, with theories ranging from a stranger abduction to a tragic accident, but no arrests have been made and the TBI urges anyone with information to come forward.
