Nestled along the banks of a river in Thiruvalla, Kerala, lies a remarkable house that captivates with its multifaceted experience. The house's allure emerges gradually, with a striking stone facade hidden amidst lush vegetation. The architectural design, exuding a brutalist aesthetic, initially reveals no openings as you approach.

Spanning approximately 7800 square feet, the house is a testament to slowness, offering an immersive journey through its spaces. This deliberate approach aims to create an atmosphere of relaxation and appreciation for the environment.

The dining area, designed as an open pavilion, offers unobstructed views of the river but can be secured with a perforated grill. The house's robust architecture minimizes interior interventions, with only select walls displaying original artworks by various artists, including the designers and their daughter.

The ground floor hosts an alfresco dining area, a bedroom, and a swimming pool with a series of steps leading to the backyard and, ultimately, the river. These steps are designed to accommodate the river's overflow during the monsoon season. Notably, metal perforated screens play a pivotal role in the project. They allow glimpses of the river even when closed and feature a specialized locking mechanism to withstand strong winds.

The journey continues as one ascends the stairs, encountering a study area on the midlanding. The first floor reveals two bedrooms and a family space accessible from a central passage.

In the kitchen garden, a thoughtful addition is a kennel for the family's dog, complete with a green rooftop to mitigate heat. The house reflects the architects' dedication and the client's appreciation, culminating in the homeowners' genuine enjoyment of their unique abode. The design's purpose is realized as they revel in the rain, leisurely strolls through the courtyards, and the discovery of their personal sanctuary within their home.
