Marry the house, date the rate. It's simple advice, but it's sage wisdom nonetheless. After all, your home is likely the most expensive purchase you'll ever make. So, it makes sense to be thoughtful and patient when shopping for a mortgage.

Of course, finding the right mortgage rate is important too. After all, a lower interest rate can save you thousands of dollars over the life of your loan. But, as the old saying goes, you don't want to "put all your eggs in one basket."

To be sure, there are a lot of variables to consider when shopping for a mortgage. But, if you focus on getting the best deal on your home first, you'll be in good shape to get a great rate too.
