The son of LEGO's founder wanted to build a model of his house but faced a scaling issue with regular LEGO bricks. This led to the birth of Modulex in 1963, smaller bricks with a 1:1:1 ratio, unlike the 5:5:6 ratio of standard LEGO bricks. Sadly, Modulex bricks were discontinued in the 1970s.
