Howard prints a woodcut of an old Sacramento building for World Architecture Day (October 7)

October 7th is World Architecture Day! Sacramento is well-known for its architecture with our city’s downtown and midtown areas home to many historic districts containing a variety of architectural styles from the late 1800s through the 1930s.

However, when it comes to our collection of cuts in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum, we do not have many buildings and much of them are unidentified.

For today, Howard letterpress printed a woodcut of a building, but we, unfortunately, do not know what was housed in this Queen Anne style building. This was made in the 1890s and it is from the Lewis Winter Collection. This has suffered some damage over the years and it has a crack in the middle, as evident in the print. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
