Here's how I usually avoid getting the camera in the mirror when taking a bathroom shot. I collapse the tripod to a height where I can avoid the reflection on the mirror. The shot is going to be lower than usual. I prefer doing it this way because there's less editing to be made. But if this shot were to be edited, it would be easy to clone the camera out since there isn't much to edit out behind me.
Here's a tip for composition: The center of the image is where the home is sold. The edges is where the story is told. I always include a third wall in there to create an imaginary boundary to help viewers estimate the size of the room. It doesn't necessarily have to be a wall, like in this shot one of my third wall is the towel on the left side.
