House hunting in rural Bulgaria never goes as planned. In this episode of my House Hunting in Bulgaria – Season 3, I drive into Varbitsa with one clear mission: find a house I saw online. Instead, I end up in the mayor’s office… and in a stranger’s car, being shown secret off-market properties that aren’t listed anywhere.

Then I head to Blagoevo, where online listings lead me to the edge of town, two adorable houses, and the most unforgettable encounter with a local baba (grandma) who tells me she’d love to have me as a neighbour.

Finally, I drive up to Gorski Dolen Trembesh, perched high on a hill with breathtaking views. The house I came for isn’t what the ad promised… but the sunset makes up for everything.

This episode is about trusting strangers, chasing online listings, getting let down, and falling in love with small Bulgarian towns anyway. If you’re dreaming of moving to the countryside, buying property abroad, or living a slower life, this one’s for you.
