When the Millennium Dome opened in London in the year 2000, this spaceship-like building was meant to be the future of architecture. But did that dream ever become a reality?

Join architectural enthusiast Reece Davey as he explores this sci-fi-inspired architectural style and visits the MOST FUTURISTIC ‘High-Tech’ buildings in London.

With pipes, ducts and elevators on the outside, the Lloyd’s Building was the very first High-Tech building in London... Its unique design was by architect Richard Rogers who had just put his stamp on the world with the iconic Pompidou Centre in Paris. Also making waves was his close friend and fellow High Tech-pioneer, Sir Norman Foster, known for the HSBC building in Hong Kong, completed in 1983. By the turn of the millennium they had truly flexed their architectural muscles with icons like The Gherkin, The Cheese Grater, The Walkie-talkie (designed by Rafael Viñoly) and The Shard (designed by Renzo Piano). Their vision of High-Tech architecture has completely changed the way our modern cities look.

Come along with Reece as he zooms up the glass elevators at the Lloyds Building, climbs the roof of the O2 and gazes out of the top floor of The Gherkin, to find out exactly what it is that makes these buildings so ‘high tech’.
